With this letter i want to send a virtual hug to those of you who suffer from fibromyalgia.
During a conversation about this medical condition i had yesterday, i realized how similar many prejudices that people with this “invisible” disease face are to those lgbt+ people face - and that those of you who are both may feel twice as invisible, twice as not-taken-seriously.
You are not “making it up”. It’s not “all in your head”. You’re not “pretending”. You’re certainly not “crazy”.
You deserve to be taken seriously.
With all my love,
Your Tumblr Mom
PS: “Wait, what’s fibromyalgia?”
Fibromyalgia is a medical condition characterised by chronic widespread pain. As there’s no known cause of fibromyalgia and there’s no test that can fully confirm the diagnosis, it’s often a “invisible” disease that imposes significant constraints on everyday life for those who suffer from it but is not easily diagnosed and may not get taken seriously by outsiders.
